FEBRUARY ARTIST | Léa Godoy

About the Work:

The air was warm, you could feel it sitting on your skin. The light was soft and bright, perfect for a nap. The breeze carried smells of sand, seagulls, salt, sweat and car gasoline. All you could hear for miles was nature's music. These were taken in the South of France, where for that one summer, all our problems disappeared.

About the Artists:

Meet Léa Godoy, an artist originally from Seattle, whose roots include a French mom and a Chilean dad. Léa's always been on the move, exploring and capturing the beauty she finds all around the world.

For Léa, photography is like freezing a moment in time. It's not just about taking pictures; it's about feeling emotion with visuals. Her photos don't just hold memories; they also make you feel a bit nostalgic when you look at them.

It's more than just pretty pictures. It's like a bridge to emotions and shared human experiences. When you see her work, it's like she's inviting you to connect with yourself. Through her lens, Léa shows us that the world is a tapestry woven with diverse stories. She encourages us all to step out, explore, embrace the unknown, and find something familiar in the unfamiliar.

JANUARY ARTIST | WIDE EYED

Title: Wild Wall Flowers

Designed by: Wide Eyed

Produced by: Wide Eyed and A Light in the Attic

Partner: Image Mill

"ddoouubbllee rraaiinnbbooww" is the Seattle artist collective that transforms everyday spaces into soft and secluded environments of wonder. We help people access a more calm state of being by tapping into their circadian rhythm through rainbow-hued light displays paired with minimal and raw materials.

In this installation, a mixture of photography, hand-painting, and mirrors recall memories of solitude in the forest and the healing powers of nature.

From chaos comes order, inspiring new forms, as well as bright patterns. Fascination; curves and contours recognized in real and reflected forms. Warmth; sweetly glowing sunlight. Plant a garden so lush in your mind that it’s eternally in bloom.

About the Artists:

Wide Eyed is the art and multi-disciplinary design studio of Rosie Alyea. Their work is often filled with bright colors and patterns and centers on the relationships between nature, romance, and nostalgia. They formed ddoouubbllee rraaiinnbbooww in 2020 as a color-obsessed project to foster both community and creative collaborations in the city of Seattle.

MAY ARTIST | Semi-Rad

Writer, illustrator, filmmaker, Brendan Leonard has a knack for bringing his daily musings to life through his commissions, commercial client work and most notably his project Semi-Rad.com.

I've been writing professionally since 2004, but about ten years ago, I started trying to process ideas through drawing them—at first, flow charts and other graphs that I started to call "emotional data visualization" because none of them contain actual data. Since 2016, when I bought my first iPad and Apple Pencil, I've drawn a couple thousand illustrations and animations, for my Semi-Rad.com email newsletter, my column at Outside, for my @semi_rad Instagram, and for lots of clients: REI, Arc'teryx, Strava, Red Bull, La Sportiva, Tuft & Needle, Protect Our Winters, and the American Alpine Club. With this show, I wanted to present a diverse set of my favorite pieces over the years, and also have some components that would be more interactive than just hanging prints on the wall. - Brendan Leonard

Brendan will have his books, custom mugs, prints, and more available for sale all month long.

When: Opening Reception Saturday, May 13th | 5p-9p

FEBRUARY ARTIST | Figment Print Shop: Relief prints from the desperately peculiar and wistful imagination of Grace Pastore

Drawing from obscure history, pop culture, and personal memories, Grace Pastore of Figment Print Shop creates relief prints that aim to be a feast for the eyes—landscapes of information and nostalgia. Every design is illustrated, carved, and printed in her tiny Fremont apartment…a scale that’s reflected in her artistic approach.

After transferring line illustrations to linoleum and other block materials, she spends days carving each block with micro palm tools to achieve highly detailed designs. Next, ink gets rolled on in methodical layers and printed editions come to life. She hopes that anyone who glances or lingers enjoys exploring the tiny worlds she creates.

January | Forrest Bourke

Seattle analog photographer Forrest Bourke is excited to collaborate with Assembly to present a series of portraits. This series celebrates the tactile and technical aspects of film, a medium that requires a level of intention and focus that is deeply rewarding. Forrest loves the way that analog photography allows for the combination of both technical and artistic elements in the work. Through these portraits, Forrest hopes to showcase the unique qualities of film: the contrast and texture of the B&W images and the rich, vibrant colors of today's color film emulsions.

In this series, Forrest invites viewers to experience the magic of film for themselves and to consider the ways in which the medium can enhance their own artistic expression. Whether you are a seasoned film photographer, an artist in another discipline, or someone who is just starting to explore, Forrest hopes that these portraits will inspire and delight you. This show is made possible through Forrest's collaboration with Assembly, and we are grateful for their support in bringing this work to the public.

At the opening itself, Forrest and Assembly are incredibly excited to present the opportunity to participate in a Polaroid 8x10 photo session. Each portrait will be shot on handmade Polaroid 8x10 film using our Calumet C1 8x10 camera system.

Wandering Shores | A Maritime Collection

For those who’ve anchored ship in Seattle, it’s nearly impossible to live here without picturing yourself amongst the sea, sailing—the towering mast and sail guiding you to your destination, should you even have one. The dream is alive in Ballard.

For the month of November we are pleased to introduce a collection of maritime inspired photography and goods. Featuring our friend Sara Leopold and her Maritime Photography Series and our friends from Alpine Sea Co, they have reclaimed some sails from Ballard Sails not far from Assembly and produced a collection they call Recover & Reissue.

October | Shogo Ota

After graduating with a BFA from the University of Idaho, Ota landed at Modern Dog Design Co. in Seattle. He established his own studio, Tireman Studio, in 2012. He has been working with companies large and small, from Starbucks, Seattle Sounders FC, Snow Peak, Fjallraven to local chefs and startups, on everything from painted murals to branding projects. Darcie Gray

“Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, my art is deeply rooted in the beauty of the mountain, forest and coastal ranges of the west.

In the fall of 2017 I took a giant leap of faith, I stepped away from the security and comfort of my day job as an apparel designer to travel, to experience, to explore and most of all to enjoy life. I soon found that the experiences I was having, and the amazing people I met along the way lead me back into the world of design and art - this time as a freelancer and often from a table (in a friends kitchen, a restaurant or coffee shop) in a foreign country or new city.

Travel may look a little different in today's world, and the road ahead may be more uncertain. But the heart is still there and the experiences we have, the people we interact with along the way are all still helping shape our creativity and inspiration.

Range Design Studio was launched in the heart of the mountains when I found my way to (and temporary residence in) the Grand Teton's. I focused on bringing design, company branding, and marketing to communities, nonprofits, local businesses and artists. During that time, my own passion for making art and painting was reignited, and so began my pursuit as an artist, maker and designer.“ For more visit Range Studios.

Ariel Parrow| June 2022

Ariel Parrow is an American artist based in Seattle specializing in murals and large-scale artwork. Largely inspired by the American Pop Art movement, Parrow favors streamlined compositions and bold colors, focused on punchy and playful subjects.

“When Ariel first began her art career, she was inspired by flora and fauna; her work progressed over time, shifting to more pop art and poster-inspired work. "I think it's one of the most humbling things as an artist to look at your previous work. It's like seeing a picture of what you used to wear in middle school," she says.”

Ian Coble’s “Life Cycle”

March 2022

Life Cycle is a photographic exploration of the forces and events that shape trees over time. Each piece in the collection is a photographic print of a sustainably harvested tree round from the Pacific Coast (CA to WA). Once harvested and prepped the rounds were then photographed in a mobile studio and inverted in post production for added detail and contrast. All of the pieces have been printed at true scale to show the most accurate representation of the size and complexity of each tree. As you dig into the intricacies of the rings, one can see how its growth was influenced by external forces like wind, rain, drought, neighboring trees, fire, insects and terrain. The trees morph as they grow to adapt to the world around them.

As an outdoor photographer, I’m always adapting how and what I take pictures of based on the same factors that determine a tree’s shape and form. During the last few years of uncertainty in all of our collective personal and public lives, I have deeply thought about the outside factors that have influenced the shape of my life internally and externally and discovered a great amount of understanding and kinship in seeing the full life cycle of trees.

A portion of the proceeds from this show will go to outdoors charities so more people can experience and learn from the knowledge gained through trees.
