ASSEMBLY LISTENING SESSIONS

Brought to you by Guayaki Yerba Mate & New Belgium Brewing

The Assembly Sessions are a series of intimate musical performances curated by our Assembly family and hosted in the heart of Ballard.

We launched this series with the idea of creating more light touch ways for our community to gather and engage and share our common love for music. Supporting artists in our community we are formatting this in a residency-style gig and platform to share each of their stories, music and more. Just off of Market Street, these sessions give listeners a one-of-a-kind experience in a cozy environment with a limited head count, time to visit with the artist, music of course, a Q&A and access to merchandise and more..

What to Expect:

  • An intimate setting with a cap on headcount

  • Unique musical experiences & opportunity to talk to the artists

  • Adult Beverages, light snacks

  • Specialty Cocktails featuring Guayaki Yerba Mate

JUNE 29TH, 2024 | DUO FEAT. SAINT JOHN & RACHEL GARDNER

Saint John’s music career has gone from hitchhiking and performing in the streets of Europe to opening shows for national touring acts and recording with Peter Buck of R.E.M. From 2014-2020 he performed over 1200 shows throughout the Pacific Northwest, had some songs played on local radio stations, endorsed a PA System from Mackie and was featured in Performer Magazine, was chosen to endorse Reunion Blues music gear, has a beer named after one of his songs (Kumbaya Supernova IPA!), and isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Rachel has been performing with Saint John across the Pacific Northwest. Not just a bassist, Rachel plays the ukulele and performs, also owns a record shop in Edmonds called Musicology Co, and is an entrepreneur and fierce supportor of the arts (and her kiddos) and getting into the outdoors. Come out on 6/29 to meet these two and to and to check out their set!

PAST SESSION | CUMULUS

Cumulus is the creative outlet for musician Alexandra Lockhart, who’s past two albums have won wide ranging praise from the likes of Stereogum, Interview, Consequence, PASTE, KEXP, Brooklyn Vegan, Seattle Weekly, The Stranger, and NPR Music’s All Songs Considered who lauded the “straight ahead pop” found on her most recent album Comfort World. In tandem with the album announcement, Cumulus is also sharing the new single “Sunbeam,” a warm and inviting blanket of lush guitar tones that builds into a bombastic and bittersweet observance of the obstacles we can put ourselves through when we don’t feel fully deserving of love. It’s a mourning of the time wasted dwelling on the past, with an appreciation of how beautiful it is to be fully vulnerable and open to another human.

Her latest album Something Brighter sees Alexandra a world away from the creative burnout she felt at the end of 2019. At the time, she had just wrapped up what would be the final leg of touring in support of the sophomore album Comfort World, and found herself questioning what might come next.

PAST SESSION | JESSIE THORENSON

PAST SESSION | BUNNY WEST

Brianna Rettig (AKA Bunny West) and Jason Kanakis have been working together since 2010 in Los Angeles. As a touring musician and a musical director, Jason has worked with many artists including Sara Bareilles, Joshua Radin, Brett Dennen, K.T Tunstall, Ingrid Michaelson, Cary Brothers, Angel Taylor, and Imogen Heap. Jason's work has been featured in films such as Garden State, The Last Kiss, and Easy A. Brianna and Jason met in Los Angeles while making the rounds playing shows at The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. They joined up and began doing weekly residencies at the old Piano Bar with a rotating group of incredibly talented musicians. Occasionally they peppered in some secret Sunday shows curated by KCRW’s Aaron Byrd, nestled at the top of the Petite Ermitage, and to keep things well rounded, they added in Tuesday nights in skid row at The Escondite. Often playing upwards up eight shows a month for three years, these two could finish each other’s sentences when it came to music.

In 2015 the music took a pause when Brianna moved to Seattle. She took on the re opening of music venue, Chop Suey, with her two business partners Erin Carnes and Brian Traynam. Then welcomed her son, Vance, to the world in 2018. She went back to school and has since opened an Early Education Montessori school devoting her life to her son and the education of children. A serial creative entrepreneur, Brianna has been waiting for the right time to come back to music. Luckily Kanakis was open for weekend Seattle trip and a reunion. This will be the first time they have played together in 9 years, and there is a lot to talk about.

SADIE AVA

Born and raised in Seattle, Sadie now based in Portland is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Her songwriting is drawn from her life, or the world around her — which means her songs are mostly about heartbreak, climate change, or both. She’s influenced by punk rock and R&B but also draws from Americana and jazz.

In 2014 she self-released The Way We Are, a record about falling in love with her now wife. Sadie is the front-woman of Sundries, a Northwest rock band that has shared the stage with acts like Thunderpussy, Young The Giant, and Deerhunter.

LEAH JULIUS

Leah grew up in the PNW inspired and influenced by the best parts of what has drawn us all to the home of some of the most iconic musicians, a vibrant music and art scene and some of the most jaw draw dropping scenery this planet has to offer. Not just a musician she also shares the limelight as a Labor Analyst. She and Sadie share a stage in Sundries, described as “a rock and roll band for break ups and triumphs”, as well global sensation Thunderpussy, an American rock band formed here in Seattle in 2014.
